Support / IP PROTECTION RATING

IP PROTECTION RATING

International Protection Marking is a classification of protection method provided by a technical device enclosure preventing access to hazardous parts, penetration of external solid objects and/or water, and tested using standard test methods. It is regulated by GOST 14254 IP Code (Degrees of protection provided by enclosures).

DESIGN REQUIREMENTS FOR CABLE PROTECTION

When selecting equipment and determining its installation location, it is highly important to ensure compliance of the protection rating with the operating conditions of such equipment. Design requirements for cable protection in non-perforated (solid) cable trays require selection by their protection rating against penetration of solid objects and water.

Cable way design shall simultaneously meet two protection requirements:

  • ensure electrical safety of operating personnel;
  • protect electronic components against environmental exposure.

The first digit of the 2-digit IP code shows the protection rating against penetration of solid objects, the second digit shows the protection rating against penetration of liquids. Meaning of every digit is given in Table 1 and Table 2.
